I often find "synergies" between my experience working on my cars and my house.
Gearheads say (sarcastically) that "stickers add 5 horsepower."
Specifically, the stickers are laser-cut vinyl decals fashionable with "ricers" and "krauters." Back in my days as a high-school "krauter," I had a few of these on my MkIII VW Jetta GLX.
While, in hindsight, they were quite gauche, they gave me the idea for an aesthetically pleasing solution to labeling a confusing clusterf*ck of eight switches on my kitchen wall.
What I did was design and order some white custom laser-cut vinyl lettering from Signs.com to match my white switch plates.
The result is a subtle, almost embossed look:

The total cost was about $16, including shipping.
